Ward's Wild Goose

Length overall: 100 ft., beam 21 ft. built 1926. In 1972, plans were researched and drawn by John Fryant for the 1926 sternwheel diesel towboat Wild Goose, based on an article and partial plans appearing in the 1926 "Transactions of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers." New information on this vessel has recently come to light. In 1995, the original Ward Engineering construction drawings were discovered in the collection at West Va. University. Since then Dr. John M. Bobbitt, of Newport News, Va. has researched and constructed an award winning model. Jack Bobbitt has graciously made all of his research and drawings available to Paddlewheels & Props, so the following selection of plans is now available:

10 sheet set of Wild Goose drawings to 1/48th scale. Includes 6 sheets researched and drawn in 1972 by John Fryant showing the boat as originally built. 3 additional sheets drawn by Dr. John M. Bobbitt show the raised pilothouse and cabin on the upper deck plus detail drawings of the steering wheel and pilothouse interior details including the stove, lazy bench and coal scuttle. This gives the modeler a choice of building the original or the altered version. Model size: 25'' long, 5 1/2'' beam. Photos and historical data incl.

7 sheets of original Ward drawings to 1/48th and larger scales. These are offered for the benefit of ultraserious modelers wishing to reproduce every minute detail, or for moneyed individuals who might want to have the full-size boat built again. They are mostly on 24'' x 36'' sheets and include: - Hull shell plating, longitudinal sections & deck plating, transverse bulkheads & framing sections. (2 sheets)
- Cabin construction details and joiner work.
- Paddlewheel and chain drive details.
- Rudder and steering gear details.
- Wheel support, fantail and splash bulkhead details.
- Piping details.
Some of these sheets have a lot of background in them, but are still readable.
