Alpha - twin-screw Diesel towboat, built 1928
Length 85', beam 21'. Model size: 32 1/2'' x 8 1/4''. The Alpha was built for the Alpha Sand Co.,
later the Missouri - Illinois Materials Co. and worked for this one firm for her entire 45 year
career. She was originally equipped with a pair of 360 HP Fairbanks-Morse diesels. She was re-engined
in 1961 with Cat. D343 diesels totaling 600 HP. Her deckhouse was lengthened and a new pilothouse
installed sometime in her long career. As built she had no flanking rudders and her bronze props
measured 50 by 38 in.
These original builder's plans include hull lines, all framing details, transverse sections, outboard
profile and deck plans. There are 5 sheets drawn to 1/32 scale: 3/8'' = 1' with details to 3/4''=1'.
The outboard profile and deck plan sheet has been enlarged to 3/8'' = 1' to match the other drawings.
This sheet was originally drawn to 1/48th scale. Photos incl.
